Unhappy daytime running lights

hi all
i'm new to this site--hope someone can answer this.

I've got a 96 850---question about the daytime running lights/
can someone explain how they work?
specifically, do the headlights put out less intensity when the car is started and then burn brighter when the headlight switch is turned to the headlight position?
what I need to know is, are the DRL not as bright as the headlights?

I'm in Canada, Toronto area and I know we have had DRL legislation for almost 20 years now. My 90 740 turbos headlights came on automatically when the engine was started---not dim but full power---did this change?

thanks

frank

They run the same power on the different setting as far as I know.

The headlights are the same intensity in either mode. The only difference is that the dash and gauge lights do not illuminate when the switch is in the off position.

Also when your DRL's are on when you put your HIGH beams on they wont stay on. When your in LOW beam mode and you put your HIGH beams on they will stay on.

Also, the tailights come on as well as the DRL's (at least they do on our 850)

Just leave your DRL's on and don't worry about it again... I swear, I haven't touched that switch since the day after I bought my car, which is nice because I use to always leave my lights on in my old car.

Actually after reading DOHCRT's post I think I just have my lights on all the time, because the dash lights up, but they turn off when I turn the car off, so whatever... just leave your lights on then.

I am sure you all know this but I dont see it mentioned here. The DRL is controlled by a small dial to the lower right of the light switch. With a small flat blade screw driver you can push in and turn the dial for three light options. This may be old news but felt I should mention it.
