Default diagnostic code interpretation

So I finally got the nerve to check out the diagnostic codes because I was tired of seeing the service engine light on all the time. So here is what I found out and what I need help figuring out the problem. Oh yeah...my check engine light and service engine light were both on and now they aren't, but now my ABS light is on along with my service engine light staying on all the time.

A3 had the following code issues: 4-4-4 - No power to hydraulic unit valves
2-1-3 and 2-1-4 - No left or right wheel signal on moving off

A6 had the following code issue: 1-5-4 (no idea what that one is)
A7 had the following code issue: 1-2-2 which I think means that the Temperature signal interval is too long
B2 also had a 1-2-2 code so maybe I have those two mixed up.

What does these things mean and how do I fix them?

Default RE: diagnostic code interpretation

Sorry for delayed reply.

There are many sources on how to interpret diagnostic codes & how to clear/reset them:

1. Engine: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/a2.html
2. ABS: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/a3.html
3. Tranny: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/a1.html

Also, Haynes manual has a good chart too.

The ABS light is probably due to a faulty ECU, and often the ECU has to be repaired/upgraded (approx $100+shipping). The ABS module is noted for failure.

How to reset service light:
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/reset.shtml

If your 850 is of '96-'97, you need a special scanner to reset service light & read codes from all systems, except engine codes which you can retrieve with aftermarket OBD-II scanner (Actron, etc...). Resetting the codes often solves problems, but if same code returns, that specific item may need replacement (O2 sensor, etc...)

As for the socket identification, there was a thread that identified all but I don't know where it is right now. Other sites should also have them so try a bit of search.

EDIT: I did the homework for you:
A1 Transmission
B1 Climate Control
A2 Fuel System
B2 Cruise Control
A3 ABS
B5 SRS
A5 TCU (Transmission Control)
B6 Power Seat
A6 Ignition System
A7 Combined Instrument

The name most pushed around for ABS problems is Vic Rocha. His website answers most of the questions.
