Digital display error
My fuel light came on, and when it did the digital display defaulted to the "miles -> 0" setting. It says I've got 395 miles to go on the gallon or so of gas I've got left.
Either I've somehow, inadvertantly, discovered a trick for getting super mileage, or something is broke. I'm assuming the first option is rather unlikely, so I figure I should ask...
What's broken? All the other readouts seem to work find.
Thanks

I'm certain. The car is for sale. I don't want to keep a full tank of gas in a car that I'm getting rid of, know what I mean?.
The gauge was close to zero, and I've had no issues with any of the gauges prior to this little quirk. It's a '94, with VDO gauges.
I put $10 in the tank, which was enough to turn the fuel light off. I drove it around town for a while, and eventually the light came back on. When it did, and defaulted to the "miles -> 0" it said I had 55 miles to go.
It seems to be working now, but I'm wondering if that was a one time glitch, or an indication that something is about to break. Fuel sending unit maybe? I don't know.
Any thoughts appreciated.
