Default do all 850's have airpumps??

Hi guys, just wondering if all the 850 models came with an airpump? if so, where is it attached? all it does is feed in warmer exhaust into the cat to warm it up quicker...right? not sure if my car has one? thanks

Tech...i didn't really look but i don't think i have an air pump...looking at the pics on the volvo speed site, i don't think i have the SAS valve where it's supposed to be an the tube leaving the side of the airbox into the air pump, seems to go go the IAC motor...oh well.. in a way it's good i guess, one less thing to change or go wrong..on the other hand it is consuming a bit more gas on cold days..

You should still have a valve on the bottom of the air box that directs hot air in.

Hey Tech..so is it the tube from the heatshied going into the airbox? i haven't noticed any other inlets going into the airbox..strange..BTW..the tube from the heatshied going into the airbox...what controls the amount of that hot air going into the airbox? a type of thermostat? thanks

Yes that is it. The flap has a thermostat built in. It also has a hose going from it to the air box lid.

Hey Tech...Well if i take off the air filter i just have the inlet from the heatshield tube and the tube just above the rad and on the top of the air filter there is the tube going into the throttle body and the smaller tube going into the IAC motor...that's it no other tubes..am i missing something?
also how can i tell if the thermostat on the heatshield flap is working properly? does it make a difference if it's not working properly? thanks

p.s. it's still freeeezing cold up here!

You might be able to start the car cold and check and see which way the flap is.

If it is not working it will just take a little longer for the car to warm up.

Its cold here to me like 38 outside.

If it is not working and/or it's closed, it will take a little longer to warm up but would this effect fuel consumption in any way? where do they sell the flap thermostat? haven't seen it on fcp???
thanks

Hey Tech, i looked on the fcp site and did see the airbox thermostat.I looked inside the air box underneith the air filter, i didn't see the thermostat itself, where is it located? Seeing as it's cold outside, i will leave my car outside overnight and see how it reacts when i start her up, i'll see if the flat opens up. thanks

The thermostat is in the the lower housing behind the flaps .you can take the airbox apart by pressing on the tabs inside and below the airbox.be careful not to break the plastic though...mine almost cracked

If you remove the crome looking hose and the front air flow from the radiator you should be able to reach in and feel it.

Or remove the airbox and check it out.

Hey Tech, ya it seems to be working well. I let the car sit outside for a while, opened up the air box and put my hand inside and felt that the valve had moved so that the warm air from the heartshield is coming in..so i think it's okay.thanks again...now on with the MAF mystery...i'm stumped on this one!
