Default Do I need a New Instrument Cluster?

My odometer is broken, but my speedometer works. My mechanic said I needed a new instrument cluster, but that seems a little unreasonable and I want to do it myself. I thought I read in another thread somewhere that there is a "$40 fix" for the problem.

Does anyone know the fix for this problem?

HA. A new instrument cluster, someone is trying to rip you off. I couldn't even begin to count how many 850s odometers don't work. There's a gear in the odometer that breaks/wears out. IPD sells it, it's like 20 bucks or something, kinda a rip off, but in the whole scheme of things, not that bad.

there is actually a $25 fix for the issue. you just need to replace the gear inside the odometer.

that looks like a real pain, is it as hard as it looks. I feel like I would end up breaking everything and having an even bigger problem.

what do you the think the time to fix that would be, I was thinking at least 3-4 hrs.

Probably give yourself that amount of time. I think the biggest part of the job is getting the cluster out, once it's out it doesn't look too bad, time consuming, but straight forward.
