Hey everybody. I have a new problem. To start out my 1994 850 check engine light was on. It gave me a 2-4-1 EGR malfunction. From this forum I discovered that that usually means the EGR is dirty. OK, I took it apart, and cleaned it (it was totally clogged.) Reset the light, and it stayed off for about 60-70 miles. Today it popped back on, and now it gives me a 1-5-4 (EGR system-leakage or excessive flow). How bad is this? Do I need to fix it? If so anyone have any hints as to what I should do? I couldn't find anything useful either on here or on Yahoo.

Did you use a new gasket on the valve?
Did you get the nut on the metal pipe tightened all the way?

 

As far as I know. I paid for a new gasket. I ran into trouble (the bolts holding the EGR to the intake manifold both snapped. I tried removing it, but it got too complicated), so I had it towed into the shop. Think I should have them look at it again, or just ignore it. The city I live in is not large enough to have to pass an emissions test, and it does not smell bad.

I would take it back to them and have them look at it. They finished the job.
