Default electrical issues with startup?

I bought a volvo from a guy a week ago and the next day he says that its having some sort of electrical malfunction when starting. Itll start 5 out of the 6 times according to him, but that one time theres some sort of short out somewhere or something. Im just curious if this is a known problem, or this ****** is jsut playing mind games with me. If it is a known problem, what extent would i have to goto to fix it? I would really appreciate some help on this, thanks.

i forgot to add, its a 1995 850 glt w/ 5 speed manual, 150k miles

More details would help us help you...

When it doesn't start, does it:
  1. Not crank at all?
  2. Crank but slower than it should?
  3. Just hear a clicking noise when key is turned to start?
  4. Crank briskly; as normal, but engine just won't start?
  5. etc.
Also somewhat confused from your post; did you buy this car, or sell it?

If you bought it, why is he telling you there's a problem starting? Is he just warning you about it, or have you experienced it?
