Default Engine Removal Question

When removing 850 engine can the hub/axle/strut assembly be swung outward far enough to slide inner axle spline out of transaxle? I'd rather not remove the outer axle nut if possible. TD

I doubt it but I've never tried it. I'd rather just remove the nut.

You could also disconnect the ball joint and strut and remove the caliper and remove the whole spindle with the axle attached.

Thanks for the suggestion of removing the spindle & axle together. Car is in a situation where air tools are not available for getting the spindle nut loose. TD

Ah okay. Without airtools, you'd probably be best to pull the whole spindle. Good luck.

I've never understood the fascination with not applying torque yourself. You can easily remove that with a breaker bar. When I say easily I mean in about 1/50th of the time it'll take you to get the strut bolts out without air tools.

Can you give us an update. I'm especialy curious about the L/axle with the cir-clip. I have removed lots of axle nuts without air tools. Saves a ton of work/time getting axles out (and engines/trannys). Hope all went well.
