Engine Vibration and Noise, but NEW Mounts
I just put all new engine mounts in my '96 850 R and it's better, but there is still a lot of vibration and noise.
I put the front and rear "cone" type and the middle one in. I thought it was going to be dead silent, but it there is still a lot of noticeable vibration and noise, especially under acceleration.
I heard that this is normal, but I don't care, I want to do what is takes quiet it down.
Does anyone have any ideas? I thought maybe the sub-frame mounts or maybe the bushing on the top of the engine. What are all of the possibilities?
thanks,
Dave

Dave, You said in your post that you put ALL NEW ENGINE MOUNTS. Then you say you need more. Sorry but we do not know what you consider a lot of noticable vibration, noise, etc. Maybe you should visit a shop and have them drive the car to let you know what you need. You may have 1 bad mount causing your problems. or some other engine/transmission problem.

I put three engine mounts in, it was a kit from fcp groton, two cones with steel cables and one "square" one.
What could be causing this, I am just trying to figure all possible causes and then try and narrow it down.
This seems to be a very common problem, so I thought it would help more than just me.
My ideas for the problem:
1) Upper Mount that attaches near the distributor
2) The "mount" on the bottom of the the transmission, I think it's called a torque... something, I'll check into that later.
what do you think and do you have names for these mounts I am trying to describe.

Did you replace the lower passenger side one pictured here? It usually is the one that goes first.

The most common mounts that are bad are these cars are:
1. Lower torque mount. It causes hard shifting. Link: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/109
2. Upper Engine Torque Rod Bushing. I have seen these totally torn through. Link: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/109
3. Upper Engine Torque Rod Rear Bushing (Firewall Mount). I have seen these torn: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/109
4. Right Front Lower Engine Mount. Link: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/109
A combination of these being torn, split, blown can cause some strange movement, clunking, and possibly worse.
Start with these and go from there.

No, I did put those three in, if I am going to keep going I want to use good oem parts. What I was really asking is if fcpgroton is a reliable source for good quality oem parts. The prices are competitive, but I'm concerned I'll pay for it in the long run by using cheap chinese parts.
I was looking around at all of the other mounts tonight and the weakest one of all is the Upper Engine Rear Torque Mount. It's shot, hardly any rubber left and the shaft is way out of center. That's got to be be it, I'm buying it tonight.
thanks for all the help.

FCP does sell a lot of OEM parts. I have not heard any complaints about their mounts. www.iPd.com sells a lot of parts as well, their parts are usually modified to be more heavy duty.
