Default Everyone please welcome a friend of mine...

So I finally talked my friend Calvin into buying a 1997 855. I will let him tell the story of going 3 hours away to get it (and the interesting events on the way home) but he picked up a pretty clean 855 base for $1100. Odd thing about it - It's the first 850 I have ever seen without a sunroof. How uncomon is this?

We're already in the works of getting his timing belt, serp belt, tensioner, and PCV taken care of, and we've fixed a few of the minor issues already, like the missing trim piece, hatch struts, fuel cap, etc.

Question for everyone: is there a difference between the pcv on the 1997 n/a and the 1994 turbo? I'll be doing his as soon as it comes in, and would rather not have any surprises. Thanks all.

P.S. his ID here is cal1j

Only about 5% of the 850's here had sunroofs.

Why do we miss out on all the good stuff?

The PCV systems are different. FCP has exploded diagrams of each system for reference that will show the parts and their placement.

My 850 doesn't have a sunroof, but my uncle's does.

Thank goodness, too! Cause I hate sunroofs! No offense to those that do have one.

I thought the base (N/A) had cloth upholstery and no sunroof whereas the GLT and Turbo 850 models had leather and sunroof? Not true?

What i would really like is base body w/turbo engine (sleeper?). I hate sunroofs; nothing but rattle-traps and another place for rain to leak in...

All of my Volvo's have had sunroofs. I just replace a leaking sunroof yesterday to get it done before Issac. I like them for the light when cloudy. I never open mine when the sun is out. I had a leak in 2 960's and this 850. Was starting to wonder if the 850 sunroof's leaked. Well, now I know. LOL

About 8 of 10 Volvo's in the yard here have sunroofs.

Since this discussion has turned towards sunroofs, thought I would add my 2 cents.
Not born, but grew up in Nor CA, the bay area, and my 1st 4 cars (3 British) all were convertibles. Moving to the Pac Nor West (Portland) it is cloudy here and milder temps. All my cars here have had sunroofs.

My '96 855 T has a sunroof. Bought her in 2004, racked up 90,000 and no leaks. I also unfortuately have to park her in the driveway so the elements do pound her.

Like mentioned above, I like the extraa light, I almost all the time have the sunroof open (except road trips to see mom in Nor Cal) as I just love the feel of the sun.

So Plus 1 to sunroofs I say!!!!
