Default Exhaust Gasket tip/trick...

So I burned an exhaust valve after driving my 850 Turbo Wagon only 480 miles from buying it... Guess it was too much to go for 13lbs boost with a 218k mile engine. Anyway I was putting the head back on yesterday and was having trouble getting the gaskets in place between the head and manifold (i left the manifold and turbo in place to save some work) One other detail worth mentioning is that my studs all came out with the nuts so I'm basically using the stud/nut as a bolt. So it's really hard to get the exhaust gaskets lined up or even close so I disconnected the bracket from the block to the manifold and scooted the manifold back away from the head about 6mm and was able to fish the gaskets in from the top using blue painters tape and a mirror. it turned a miserable job into about a 15 minute affair.

As it turns out these Volvos are pretty easy to work on but there are definitely some tricks!

If it happens again use some light glue and glue them to the head and screw the studs in till it dries. Then slide the head in with the gaskets glued to the head.

I use trim adhesive to hold the gaskets in place while putting the head on.

I know guys that have to do this with the exhaust gasket that goes from the turbo to the DP. It seems to work fine and definitely holds it in place for you.
