Default Fog Light Installation

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I can't seem to figure what's up.

I have a 96 850 base. I wanted to wire some fog lights. My car is prewired so it made things a lot easier. I've found the dummy plugs under the bumper and wired them. I've installed an OEM switch into the dash with the prewired harness. I've checked the fuse, and it's still intact 15A.

I don't get what step I'm missing. The Fog lights just aren't working for me. I'm starting to wonder if the foglight switch i have, simply doesn't work.

Any input is appreciated. I'm definitely not a born mechanic! Thanks

Do you mean simply changing the postive and negative flow into the foglights? I tried that. Still no change.

When the dashboard lights come on, is the fog light switch supposed to glow at all? It's not glowing.

I think that depends on the type of switch. On some cars, the switch only glows when in the "on position," while in other cars, it glows all of the time so you can find it in the dark.

You said your car was pre-wired, did you have to splice wires together, or where there plugs? You may have a bad ground somewhere in the circuit, or possibly a bad/disconnected power wire, and as you said, you may have a bad switch. They have been known to go bad. Doyou have a test light? You could always turn the switch on, and test the power wire to the fogs and see if power is making it to the lights or getting interrupted somewhere inbetween.

That makes me want to check our Volvo. I'd love to put some fogs on it.

Do you have pics of your setup?

You need to install 2 relays for the lights to work if the car didn't come with them.
I am fighting the same thing now.

A Test Light? That's a brilliant idea! I'll defintiely have to checked that out. I actually don't have any pictures at the moment, but i can get some when the sun comes back. They're mounted using a couple of screws to mount the bumper. It's not exactly the sleekest of things, but it's not too shabby.

I haven't spliced any wires. I simply used the ones provided. The fog lights had dummy plugs, and the dashboard switch already had a harness. Its very possible that the actual switch is broken.

2 relays? Well darn. Where do I have to wire?

The relays go under the dash.
Also sorry it is 3 realays total.
2 under the dash and the 3rd one is the headlight relay for a car with foglights.
Thats what I need is the headlight relay with foglights.

Ok, I'm just making sure i know exactly what you're talking about because i have trouble keeping up.

I have been getting better aquainted with under the dashboard area. I do believe i've seen a couple of places for relays to be put in. I want to say one is lime green and the other is yellow. Those would be where i simply buy a generic bosch relay and install?

Now this 3rd one. Do i need to get that relay and replace the one that i have?

Yes you will need to swap your headlight relay and install the other 2.
One is actually a bridge.
Attached is a few pics first is the parts break down.
Second 2 is the relay locations and what they are for.

This is my attempts to mount foglights without having holes in the bumper for the correct position. I figure at night it will still look pretty smooth.

Thanks Tech! I'm glad you could clear that up for me. I was having a bit of trouble finding exactly what i needed to know!

That should look good.
FYI if you look really close where they are supposed to be there is an outline you could cut out if you are installing factory lights.
But you would also need the little rubber o-ring to go in the hole.

I noticed that my fog lights on mine aren't working and was thinking about replacing. I don't know if they are factory or not, but I do have all hardware in the interior. Mine are the square lights. Which ones were the factory model-round or square?
