I recently just bought an 850r Wagon (somehow talked a Buick dealer into selling it for $500) and went under it to change out the transmission fluid. To my surprise, there is an unhooked intercooler-unhooked meaning it is attached under the radiator but there is no piping attached. I can't find the brand online (jdm racing or some corny name like that) but I wanted to know if it's worth it to buy the piping for. Anyone else use intercoolers on their 850's?

 

Kinda confused by your question. YES use intercooler on a turbo car. Do not run without those charge pipes connected.

 

was thinking the same. If you blow off your main turbo to intake airhose you'd lose all boost, run horribly, throw all sorts of check engine lights etc.

well my repair shop just rebuilt my 96 850 wagon turbo and it's been doing all kinds of bad stuff. they now tell me they took out the intercooler, sent it to a shop to check out, and now it's supposed to be "fixed". BTW, the bad stuff was a smoking exhaust and bad smell coming inside the car.

old post. OP was referring to an R model which is an 850T with a stronger tune and some styling. If you want to drop in 20 HP, search eBay for a used 850R ECU in your 850T...

 

I got around to looking at it... and there is a unhooked Front Mount Intercooler. It says JDM Sport. The stock one is hooked up but for some reason there is the second unhooked one. I googled it and it looks like this one:

Any reason to mess around with it?
