FR Suspension Clunking
This is my first post here, hello all. I have an 850 turbo wagon that has been clunking from the passenger side front suspension for a while. I took a look at it and what I believe to be the problem is in the photo. I noticed the main bolt on top is movable, when I move it by hand the wheel slightly moves too. What is needed to fix this and what are the part names?
Also, I have a whinning in this wheel I believe to be the bearing, correct me if I'm wrong please. My reason for thinking this is after about 30 mph it begins to whine, with the car still up to speed I shifted into neutral to disenguage the tranny (hopefully to eliminate it as a suspect) the whinning didn't change in any way. I revved the engine and the whine still stayed the same. Would this be the bearing? Thanks!

RE: FR Suspension Clunking
I think your spring seat is bad. Very common on these cars. The strut itself may also be bad. Sounds like the bearing is bad also. You will probably need to replace the Strut Cap and Upper Spring seat. You should do both sides. While you are doing it you might want to do your sway bar links also. It's at the bottom of the strut assembly. You are going to have to remove the strut from the assembly whether you are changing it or not, and this is kind of dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. When I do mine, I'm taking it somewhere to have them unassemble and reassemble the assembly. I'll do the rest of the work myself. Look on fcpgroton.com and you will see all the parts and how they fit together.

And if you can afford, have the front-end aligned at a dealer or a shop that specialises in Swedish/European makes, after you're done with all the repair.
Edit: As to the whining noise, it may as well be the wheel bearing/hub unit, which is an integral unit and the entire assembly has to be replaced with a new one.
