1998 S70 Front Suspension clunking and squeaking
Hello, I am new to this sight but it looks great. I have a 1998 s70. It only has 83000 miles. My mom wrecked it a few times. The right front makes a really loud clunking and squeaking noise just driving down the street. Going over anything it makes the clunk and squeak noise. It also feels like it bottoms out over bigger bumps. It is like there is no absorbsion in the strut at all. The suspension has always been stiff but the noise is getting worse. PLEASE someone give me a little advice about what to look for or what might need to be replaced before taking it to someone. I will be taking the wheel off and checking it out this weekend. PLEASE HELP. Thanks

Good job on your mom!
The most common problem for that issue on S70 & 850 is the retiring spring seat. See attached pic. When you replace the spring seats, I would replace all little hardware except the cross-shaped nut. I'll provide you with on-line vendors that some of us have been using to buy OEM & high-quality parts, and if you can find a shop that specialises in Swedish/European makes and is willing to accept parts from customers, that would be the way to go.

In the pic, I've circled the spring seat in RED. For other parts that I would replace if I were you while in there, I've circled them in light GREEN.
I hope this is of some use.

P.S: It is notmandatory to replace the struts & shocks at this point, if the car feels stable. However, I went ahead and replaced them on my 850 at about 140,000 miles/14 years, and the car felt like it was new.

JPN, I am in the exact same boat and looking to do my V70 with the same problem. I was going to do all that you circled except for the Strut Mount. To do the Strut Mount would add about $160 to the parts list while the other stuff is relatively inexpensive. What is your reasoning for doing the mount too? You just like spending our money? Just kidding, but I am really curious and would like others opinions also.
