i have a cricket-like squeek coming from the front end of my car. it sounds like a belt squeek, but it varies depending on wheel speed, not on engine speed. it goes from a slow chirping at low speeds, to a constant high pitched squeek at higher speeds. it also only seems to happen on longer drives (more than 20 minutes). might have something to do with the brakes?

also, when i'm releasing the clutch, particularly under heavier strain, there is a pop and i can feel it in my foot. it doesn't seem to be slipping. it also doesn't happen all the time.

 

most brake pads have a metal feeler on them that scrapes the rotor to let you know your brake pads are about gone.

 

The squeak is likely a pad wear indicator. Take your wheels off and look at the pads. As for the clutch... I really don't know. Sorry!

 

the noise is still present while braking. is that possible?

 

also, anyone know if this noise is consistent with the throw out bearing?
if so, is this a tough diy job?

 

When my throwout bearing started making noise it would rattle like dry bearings whenever I pushed in the clutch.
