Default Fuel Tank Volvo 850

So I am curious can you replace a 1994 Volvo 850 Wagon fuel tank with a 1997 Volvo 850 sedan fuel tank?

Is the 94 a turbo or NA engine?

Should be the same. Best thing to do is check part number on a Volvo parts website.

eBay is a good source as is Car-parts.com (to search recycle yards near by). By looking at the parts numbers, most online info says the tank for the 95-97s are the same as the 94 Turbo wagon but suggest the 94 NA is different - but I didn't find what the correct part number is or how its different. I'd also say while you are doing the tank, consider replacing the pump at the same time...

thanks for the Vida print out. I found it really odd how the online store web sites excluded the 94 NAs to the compatibility listing - it didn't make sense there would be a different tank based on engine...

This is all great information, its a shame though because a select amount of 94 850's had a bad fuel tank that would leak where the heat shield is screwed in, (and I just happen to have one) and you can not fill it over 9 gallons and if you are parked on a hill it pours out soo my theory is the owner before me who did not take very good care of the Volvo in the first place must have screwed in the heat shield too tight, because there is record of them replacing the tank but clearly it did nothing haha... Great news is the Volvo is in great hands now

Are you sure its not the vent hose on top of the tank? A very common leak point.

So the tank was replaced under the recall already?

No it was coming from a crack where the heat shield screwed in, we took off the tank already and tried to seal it, but it did not last long at all, I may not have to replace the tank if anyone would happen to know of a good long lasting sealant?? And just try a plastic weld?

I have to look at the records of the tank I came across it but did not spend that much time reading about it so I will look it over again to see whether it truly was replaced..

Sorry, doesn't look like the recall applied to your vehicle. It was worth a check though.
