Default Getting another Factory Remote

Hey

Just called Volvo Dealership and to get a new remote and programmed they quoted me $167.00

And if I bought a remote from online it would cost $59.99 to have it programmed, with no guarantee it would work. Plus if it doesn't work, i'd still need to pay for it.

Has anyone else had any issues with loosing a remote, in my case I bought the used car and it only came with 1 remote. Does anyone know of anywhere else I
might be able to get a remote programmed for a little bit cheaper or at least guarantee that it'll work before I'm obligated to pay?

Its outrageous prices like this that I'm discouraged from having things done by dealerships.
I had my other car quoted by an independent alarm shop, and it only costs $50 to get a new remote, with programming.

Thanks.

Your lucky to have a remote. I have never seen an 850 still having the factory remote, or any remote for that matter. IMO, the remote is kinda pointless.

I have the factory remote that came with my 94 850, but it doesn't work... I even changed the battery, and still... nothing. I also have a couple remotes of the right type for my S70, but I haven't gotten around to having them programmed... the S70 really is a PITA without a remote, as there's no lock cylinder on the passenger side, so you HAVE to unlock the car with the driver's door.

HAHAHAHA, whoops, I thought he was referring to the radio remote. HAHA. I lost the remote to my car a while ago, and I personally like locking and unlocking it with the key. whoops.

The 850 remotes can be programmed by your self. I have posted on here before on how to program them. It works for the 850 and 960 only though.

I still have my keyless remotes for my 850 and work fine ...... Not sure which remotes you have, but these are available on this forum http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index...ped-in-the-us/

No there is not. It has what's called a dead lock setup. When you lock the car with the key all the doors lock. When you unlock with the key they all unlock.

Also, when you push down the lock on the drivers door, they may all lock and when you pull the handle to open the drivers door, if it is locked, they may all unlock.

The relay under the dash might be bad.
