Default Heater Hose Header

Looks like I am going to pester you knowledgable folks on a regular basis for a while...

I have a coolant leak that I have isolated to the upper heater hose going into the firewall. I can verify that it is not comming from the hose itself, but rather from the header that the hose plugs into.

Once I determined this, I went to my local Volvo dealership and purchased the o-rings and snap clips to replace what I thought was a blown o-ring. The kit that they gave me contained (for each hose) 1 retainer clip, 2 o-rings, and 1 plastic ring. During the installation process I removed the leaky hose from the firewall, and verified that I had removed all of the old parts, and then proceeded to install the new items onto the hose in this order: clip, o-ring, plastic ring, o-ring.

Before I go any further, I wanted to tell you guys that I browsed other threads for this issue and read that these hoses can be a bear to remove/install so I was expecting to have to grunt, groan, and generally fight to get this hose back into the firewall.

This was not the case...

And the silly thing still leaks.

Are we looking at having to replace the header, or did I miss something here?

Thanks for the insight

You need the header. It is a pain to do as well. I had the same problem a couple of months ago when I did my evap. I bypassed it for the moment till I get a header and install it. You need to remove the gas pedal and work the pipes to be able to get it off and install the new one. You also need to remove the 2 screws outside.

Oh well...at least I know what I am in for now. I will probably wait till the rainy season do to this project, which here in the northwest could be next week.

Thanks Tech.

You gotta love this...

Volvo Dealership - $49.95
IPD USA - $39.44 (http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-850/Heat...p-72-174-4073/) for the same OEM part.
FCP Groton - $34.50 (http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/80) this too is the OEM part.

I would have gone with IPD since they are just up the road from me but they didn't have the part in stock...it is a drop ship item for them and shipping would have put the thing up around $45.00. FCP Groton is shipping it to me for just over $40.00 and I should have it in 2-3 days.

I love dealer markup...
