Default PLAY IN STEERING RACK

My '93 850 just failed state inspection due to a bad inner tie rod on the driver's side. I replaced it and still have "play" in the front end when I move the tire back and forth while on jack stands. It looks as if there may be play in the steering rack itself, but, only on the driver's side. Is this normal, or, is there a problem with the rack? Any adjustment?
Thanks,
Tom

You could also have a bad outer tie rod and balljoint.

Don't think it's the outer tie rod or balljoint. I removed the power steering boot and then reassembled everything. I then moved the tire back and forth. There appears to be a littlemovement in the rack which amplifies at the wheel into noticeable movement. I would think if you had movement in the rack that it would be noticeable on both sides, but, I only have it on the driver's side???

Then that leads me to believe it is either the outer or balljoint.

Hey Tech!! Looks like a bad ball joint. I'm going to have it replaced at a local shop for $125, as I need an alignmentanyways.
Thanks forthe help!

Heads up out there, the steering coupler is often overlooked, with high miles, it may cause you to chase you tail. It's close proximity to the exhaust must be recognized.
