Angry Help! Broken interior door latches, can't find replacements...

Hi all, the title pretty much sums it up. In my 1996 model 850, the driver's interior latch failed and then the front passenger's failed no more than 3 weeks later. My mechanic said the replacement, part # 9152255 is unobtainable through his usual suppliers. Any suggestions on where I could find the part? I'm hesitant to go to a junk yard because, chances are, it's some plastic in the part that failed and any part that old will be likely to fail, too. I'm tired of having to lower the window and yank awkwardly on the exterior door handle from the inside toward the outside to open the door I'm an old man I'm not getting any younger...

I don't think it's a common failure, so I would likely head to the junkyard. The 850s are getting old for sure.

Thanks for your reply! It's looking hopeful . I called them, spoke with Melvin. He asked me what the problem was. He said I don't need that part 9152255 "left front door latch lock actuator", available for $85, all I need is two bushings for $6.50 each. That makes sense because it appears that actuator works fine: turning the key locks and unlocks all the doors.

He also told me I don't need to pay my mechanic at least $140 to take the door panel off and find the trouble, I can do it myself, it's not that hard. Saving at least $140 would be nice...

I should be getting the bushing in a few days. We shall see...

Thanks again for the tip! I'm hoping it works out.

also bookmark car-part.com - its a national recycle yard search engine where you can find yards close to you that may have some 850s to pick parts from.

Thanks for letting us know, and do let us know if that fixed the problem. My '94 850 that I bought new is periodically requiring replacements of various parts, but it's holding up surprisingly well. I even still have the original muffler! Replaced the driver's side visor this weekend. Perhaps the most troublesome parts have been the engine mounts. The originals lasted ~220,000 miles and the replacements lasted 10K miles.
