Default Help my car wont start

Hello,
I have a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT sedan. It has about 330000 miles.
I parked at a friend's house (car ran fine) and about twelve hours later when I went to leave, the car would not start. All of the lights were working so I don't think it was the battery. When I turned the key in the ignition nothing happened including no sound. The battery was a little corroded so I cleaned it and tightened it and it seemed to help, but the car would not turn over. I was able to get a jump and after sitting for about ten minutes hooked up to the cables, it finally started.
After bringing the car back to my house and turning off the ignition, the car will not start again.
My question is what could be the reason for this and how can I fix it?
Thanks,
Caitlyn

just because the lights work doesn't mean that the battery has enough to start the car. you should start buy having the battery tested at a place like auto zone

your battery needs replacing, if a jump starts your car, its time for a new battery.
