Default Help With VIN # and engine type

I am trying to find out the type of engine on my 1997 850. The VIN # starts out YV1LS5648... the 56 stands for the engine type. However, all the sites give a 55 or 57 number but no 56. Any help?

From Volvo Cars US site:

56 = B5254T Emissions = 4 (850AWD Canada)
Emissions 4 = w/o EGR w/air pump, w/OBDII, w/elec. control evap, Motronic 4.4 w/Rulo., TLEV (55, 56)

I'm not that certain but I think the '56' is the low pressure turbo engine in model year 97.

^I think I have "57" which is a "low pressure turbo". But I will check.

Carva, where are you from? Because according to Bill's info, looks like N/A AWD?

'58' is the 'R' model and '57' is the T5 and both have high pressure turbos. That's why I'm thinking the '56' is the low pressure turbo. That's why I am asking if I can use an engine from a '57' or '58' VIN to replace the engine in my 850R?

^Isn't the R and the T-5 the same thing? Just in different years, they were named differently?

And I checked my VIN and I had a "57". I have a "low pressure turbo" model aka the 850 TURBO.

It is my understanding the difference between the R and the TURBO is an ECU chip which gives a bit more boost for 30 seconds (according to the manual). I hope this helps.

One more time with feeling...

VIN "56" - is 1997 850 GLT using 2.4L engine with low-pressure turbo
VIN "57" - is 1994-96 850 Turbo or 1997 850 T5 using 2.3L engine with high-pressure turbo
VIN "58" - is 1995 850 T5R or 1996-97 850 R using 2.3L engine with high-pressure turbo with ECU programming to temporarily increase boost for a pre-determined amount of time (not sure of specifics).

To clarify...
1995 850 T5R is not the same model as 1997 850 T5
1994-96 850 Turbo is high pressure turbo
