I'm looking to purchase a 94 Turbo wagon that the owner claims revs to 3K rpm on COLD or WARM start for just a few seconds, then settles to normal idle. I dont know much more. 135K miles on the wagon. I havent driven to determine if the rev issue hampers performance elsewhere in the drivability. Any help would be appreciated

 

When first started it will raise some but 3k isn't really normal. See if the check engine light is on.

 

On mild days ours revs to about 1800 to 2,000 RPM for a couple seconds. On cold days (40 degrees or below) it will rev to about 2300-2500 or so for a few seconds and then settle to a normal idle

 

In the freezing winter in Chicago, the fast idle does reach close to 3,000 RPM then after a few seconds it comes back to 850 plus minus. But if Tech says it is not normal, then....

It might be close to that in the really cold weather. The coldest we get here is about 32 degrees.

 

mine revs high here in michigan where it has been like 15 degrees or so the past couple of days, probably around 2500 to 3000

 

LOL sounds like it's normal...but tell the owner it's a problem and will cost XXX to fix and lower the price by that amount
