Default Removing Auto Shifter Cable...

I'm getting around to working on the 5 speed shifter swap part of the project, but i'm stuck on how to remove the automatic shifter. I've got the shifter box free from the console, and have pulled the cable all the way through the firewall into the car already, but can't snake it all the way through b/c the metal bracket that bolts to the trans is too big to pass through. Is there a way to remove the part at the very end to get the bracket off?

Or is there a way to separate the cable from the shifter itself? I'm looking all over it but can't see where it would detach...

Yes the cable just slides into a groove in the shifter assembly. You will lift the cable straight up to get it out. Then feed it from inside to the outside.
