Lightbulb How to install the side marker lights in the Volvo 850.

Here are my instructions on how to install the side marker lights. I got a pair from a S70 that was in the junk yard.

RSPI,
Nice write up, easy to follow. I would offer this suggestion.
What is an average price for the markers from a yard compared to buying new.
If your car is not pre-wired, what is the cost of the additional required items.

Sort of a total cost for the upgrade.

Cheers

Most after market companies charge about $95 for a pair of lights. The wire cost me $15 at NAPA but that can be had anywhere at different prices. The wire splices cost me about $4 at Wal-Mart. The lights cost me $4.50 at a local junk yard and I already had the other supplies. So all said and done it cost me about $30. But now I'm sad because you made me count the cost and I was enjoying telling myself that it cost me $4. Thanks again.

RSPI,
Didn't mean to burst your $4 bubble, however look to other side, folks know that they can do this upgrade for about $30. They have a nice write to follow and you have help others. Isn't that a blessing?

I have a question

I acquired a set pulled from a car in a junkyard through eBay. The seller claimed they came from a 96 or 97 850.

When I install them on my car, the 'tangs' that snap them into place into the fender seem to be about 1/4 inch too short - so, they don't install right. They fall right out of the holes. The forward end of the hole has a flat 'notch' that I assume the tab is supposed to snap into.

Are there more than one variety of these? Did I buy the wrong thing?

Or did someone sell me the wrong part?

In the meantime, I'm going to use a couple small pieces of 3m double faced trim tape like emblems and mouldings are attached with.. but I'd really like to get the 'right' part so it fits right....

Any feedback is appreciated!

I have a spare in my car so I'll take a close up picture of it and post it so you can see if yours is missing a part of it.

as a side note, if you need the connectors, they are the exact same plugs as the outside temperature sensor. Just sayin'.... That's how I did mine, because I couldnt get to enough wiring on the plugs in the fender to feel comfortable with splicing them.

The wires are also the same as the door lights.

Here is my spare light. Maybe you can see if your's has all of it's pieces.

Interesting. The little tab on yours extends out further than the one does on my junkyard lenses. The tab was also fatigued on the ones I got, and when I gave it a very gentile tweak to see if it would move any further, one of them cracked off. I'll either get some new ones, or if I can visit a junkyard on my own to pull and inspect on my own, I'll get another set of used ones. Thanks for the pics!
