How Rare is The White R?
In doing the research to give to the insurance company to prove how rare my yellow T5R is, I ran across a statement that said the white 850 R's were produced in limited number. I know when I found mine it was hard to find and I also was looking for the charcoal interior which made it even more difficult. I could find them with tan interior but not charcoal. I could not find any actual numbers though. Heck that one might be as rare as the yellow on.

Here is the statement I read where it go me wondering:
"to bring some information about the colors...
T5-R was available in only 3 colors - yellow, black and olive green. No other. At first, Volvo made 2500 yellow cars, then after those were sold out, 2500 black ones and then 500 green ones. Therefor together was only 5500 T5-Rs ever made.
On contrary 850 R (1996) was available in more colors - red, black, anthracite grey, olive green, turquoise and very few white ones. Production numbers are unknown.
Every other color on T5-R or R is a fake."
I could find no mention of colors for the 97 850 R though and mine is a 97. Quite a few people like the white better than the yellow. Some don't like the yellow at all to be honest. I also know that in 96 they made two different colors of red, one being the true red we see quite few of and the other being more of an orangeish red. I was on this board posting pictures comparing the two when I bought the white one. My wife hated the orangeish red color.

RE: How Rare is The White R?
I live in Indiana, where the 850's are reasonably rare. I have seen one R in person, and it was a white one.
So if I see an 850R in white, yellow is most definitely more rare.
But Jim, I doubt they will care about the color of your car. Unless you had collector car insurance, they probably won't give a hoot.
A friend of mine had a 1993 Toyota Celica All-Trac. Someone hit him and the other person's insurance company did not care that his car is one of 81 produced in 1993 with turbo and AWD. The car was the most rare color, in a sea-mist/teal color
