This week has sucked for me and my 850. I havent ran it since last wednesday. It goes to the shop this wednesday for the PCV system to be serviced. Today i was at the beach and left my bag on shore while surfing. Somebody took my whole bag, nothing important, except my key. My only key. I bought the car used and only got 1 key with it. ANy help at all ???

Sorry about the problem, it sucks.

I can only suggest the following:

1. Lock smith.
2. Call dealer/tow your car & give them VIN# of the car; they may be able to give you another key.
3. Break the smallest window to gain access to the lock tab. Duct-tape the rear quarter window and break it.....Never mind, I think getting it towed is the best thing to do, and have the dealer look up the same key, but since the thief may know your car, I would replace both lock cylinders, as well as the ignition switch.

If this doesn't sound good, wait till others reply to you.

With the VIN you get the laser cutting code for your key. With that code you can go to a locksmith and make a copy. I did that for my 850 because I wanted a factory-quality copy of the key.

I had a key made at the dealer when I first bought my volvo. I gave them my Vin#, and in about 2 days I had a new key. I think it was about 30 bucks. Kind of pricey, but it is a factory key.

 

I paid 30 for driver and valet key. You probably have to proove you are the owner of the car. The VIN number is not enough.

 

$30 for a factory key expencive? HA! a NEW Lexus master key with built in key is $350. And that doesn't even include programing!

 

I hate keys with transponders. They are a rip off to replace. Luckily 850 keys are transponder-less.
