I messed up my radio: HELP
Hi,

I am planning to replace the stereo in my 1993 850, so, I went to CircuitCity, asked around, and ended up buying an adapter piece they had there (just incase they didn't have it anywhere else).

So, I took out the stereo, plugged in the thing to see how it worked (was considering installing a radio myself), and 2 of the wires touched, sparked (never would have thought that it was powered when the car was turned off), and the fan turned itself on (while the car was turned off.) I turned the car on and off again to get it to turn off, plugged the stero back in, turned on the car, and the stereo wouldn't work. I checked the fuses, found one that had gone, replaced it, stereo still wouldn't work. (Also, the engine seemed to have problems immediately following this. It would cut itself off after idling for around 10 sec.) But, later last night, I noticed that the backlighting to the stereo still lit up, but the stereo wouldn't turn on.

So, now I have no idea what to think. Can anyone offer any help? It is getting taken to a mechanic today because they had installed the brakes improperly. Would they have the equipment to tell me what is wrong? It is also getting taken to a Volvo dealer becase of problems with the front, passenger-side window, but I'd prefer not to ask them about it because they charge so damn much...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, it magicly fixed itself!

Although, now I have another question.

If I do hook up another stereo, since there are 8 speakers in my car, and only 8 cables (4+, 4-, front right/left, back right/left), will i loose 4 of my speakers? or do the 2 speakers in each corner play the same thing?

RE: I messed up my radio: HELP
I saw your problem by accident when I was searching for something.
if you hadn't found the problem yet.
sent me a e mail and when I get a min I'll check your wiring diagram and tell what to do to fix
everything back to normal.
