Intermittent odometer
Hello, I recently repaired my odometer and now it seems to have a mind of its own. I replaced the gear. It will tick away for about 500 or 600 miles and then stop working. I will push on the trip reset about 25 to 40 times and it will start working again, only to stop once I park and turn off the car. Any ideas as to how to fix this issue?
sounds like the plastic gear is still the problem - possibly its slipped on the shaft and not staying tight or the odometer itselt is binding. You can probably find a replacement cluster on eBay etc to swap parts from or simply drop in a replacement cluster. Last time I did that I think I paid $40 on ebay... What year is your car - on the 93-95s I believe you can use the OBD1 port to actually pull the true mileage from the DIMM. Have to look around for write up on that.
Thanks for reply, I am actually on my second cluster, as I attempted the repair on the first cluster and changed the gear, when I put the cluster back in the car none of the gauges were working and odometer still was not working. Just the back lights were working. I then ordered a second cluster and did the repair again being extremely cautious not to break anything. And now everything is working except for the odometer at times. The odometer decided to start working again today so I may just leave it alone as not to damage anything. But I may decide to take it apart and replace the gear and investigate the issue further.
