just curious......
hi boys and girls. i just wondered what the factory performance stats are for my volvo 1996 t5?? i only ask as i pulled away from a jap crap rx8 (modded)the other day on a certain fast bit of road near me!!! also,is the 850 r the quickest of all volvos(factory of course). however this message is not to be confused with me street racing...........lol

RE: just curious......
I would think the 850 R is probably the quickest factory Volvo when it was made anyway. I have been beat though by an S80 T6 which is what my daughter has and it is pretty fast. I think I read somewhere that the 850 Turbo was turning mid 15's in the 1/4 mile without mods.
I don't know much about the Mazda RX8, but I know a 93-95 vintage RX7 just blew me away one day like I was standing still. I went out and test drove one after that and it was the fastest car I ever drove. I didn't buy it beacause I was afraid I would kill myself in it. I looked down and was doing over 120 and I was still on the on ramp entering an Interstate highway.

The J@p crap RX-8 for the U.K ver seems to produce 231HPout of the Renesis Wankel unit; twin-rotor, turbocharged I believe. The Wankel units are known for silky smooth, seamless acceleration. Now this makes me think of The Glenlivet. BTW, the Hiroshima-based J@p crap Zoom Zoom mfg is currently owned by Ford.

I hope we aren't like Jaguar/Land Roverand wind up as a TaTa.
I tired to buy some Bilstien TC shocks from one of the online car parts places (They have several different sites but it is all the same company) that was nothing more than a call center in India and, after they wouldn't honor their online sale price, it took me nearly 2 years to get my credit card credited back for the purchase.

RE: just curious......
In reading one of the links posted by Quck Brick I read the following in the review of the 850:
All models share a smooth 5-cyl. dual overhead cam 20-valve engine, mounted fore and
aft, rather than transversely, which provides better weight distribution. That's a
plus in a front-drive car, since all front-drive cars have a heavy forward weight
bias.
What the heck does that mean?

- All models share .... 20 valve engine: Bull $hit. What happened to the 10-valves?
- Mounted fore & aft, rather than transversely....: Bull $hit. The 850's engines, unless they are speaking of overseas models we don't know of, are ALL transversely-mounted God d@mn it. As far as I know some Acura TL series do come FF mid-engine layout.
- Bull $hit.

Hey now,
JPN is correct [sm=smiley20.gif]. The 850, from '92 on, has a transversely mounted engine, left to right not front to back, and the article did forget the 10 valve engine. Mine is a B5254f and is a 20 valve but there is another designationthat comes to mind, B5234, is the turbo. Same year, only it's a 2.3L and a low pressure turbo.
Scroll down a bit on this page to see the important stuff.http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/1994/1994_850/94850_9_1.html#9.3
The above is a page from the 1994 850 (online) owners manual. handy for those outthere who didn't get a manual with their car. I, mind you, have never bought a car, even my crappy one's, without it present. If you can't keep your manual, what else can't you keep? [sm=bs.gif]

Wikipedia has this, but since it is open to anyone to edit, accept what you know to be true and research the rest to comfirm.

Hope that this will help clear things up . If not, I tried [sm=smiley36.gif].
