Default maximum boost pressure code - 850 R

about 6 weeks ago the air flow meter went in my R... eventually had it replaced with a new one from fcpgroton.com and it is now drivable.

however car wont rev higher than about 3.5 thousand rpm when driving and only goes upto 4.5 thousand when in neutral.

the code that the mechanic couldn't clear was the maximum boost pressure code. i noticed when i got it back from him it was boosting from about 11psi to 15 psi instead of the usual 8psi to 10psi. both the mechanic and i have not touched the boost controller - as i don't even know where it is.

is there anything i can do to make my car right again short of taking to a different mechanic than the two i've already been to?

tech, please help!!!

EDIT: forgot to add it's a '96 model.

There is 3 vaccum lines that go to the turbo. Make sure they are all good. They are known to crack.

would cracked vacuum lines result in the car not revving past 3.5 thousand rpm?

the cracked line scenario could be a possibility because the turbo has sounded a little louder than usual since i have had it back from the mechanic especially when backing off the accelerator releasing the turbo's pressure.

If you go into Overboost it will mess up the running of the car. So IMO yes it will stop it from going past 3,500.

just got the exhaust fixed today on the 850.

where the dumpy bolts to the turbo had gotten too hot and destroyed the bolts, nuts and gasket and also some of the welded area near the cat.

had the studs and nuts replaced, new gasket and extra bracing around the bad welds added. in all the car sounds better but its still not boosting past 3,500 rpm.

i cant get the OBD codes cleared till monday afternoon and if that doesnt help, the next step is to replace all the vacuum lines and the return line i guess.
