Default Maybe get a 850, but I need some advice!

Hey guys and gals,

I'm 17 and passed my test about a month ago, I bought a 2002 Seat Ibiza about 7 months ago when I started learning to drive. Well its not to reliable and the other day an uninsured driver rear ended me! [:@]

Not a major damage, new bumper and whole side panel. Thing is after careful consideration I have decided that after 7 months of a love hate relationship we must part. It costs a fortune to keep running.

So I am selling it for around £4000, I have been offered a 1993 850 GLT 2.0 - but have also seen upto 1996 cars - with the 20v engine developing 143hp. The 93 car can be had for around a £1000 from a friends parents - decided to downgrade as the car won't get as much usage as inticipated at University - and it will be parked in city centres and I don't want it stealing.

Is the 93 a wise buy, is a 850 a wise buy? Its a 850 GLT Estate in red, with FSH, aircon, alloys and half leather.

Give me some info, what to know - is it expensive to run - I know the fuel economy will be awful as I am coming from a modern 3cyl 1.2 to an older 5cyl 2.0 but apart from that - oh its a box but I kinda like its old school styling.

The family I am buying from has a history of Volvos and swares by them - my friend, she has a 1990 740 (I think) and it still runs a dream - they have had it from new.
My father had a 940 back in 92 which was really nice car from what I remember.

So should I, or should I run now?

Thanks.
