Metal hose on back of engine?
Can someone tell me what the metal flexible dryer vent looking thing is on the back of my engine (2.4 n/a) that looks like it goes from the exhaust back into the engine? Also where can I can I get a new one, mine was very old and brittle and I broke it.
You mean the piece that connects the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe? It's called a flex pipe. You can get new ones, pretty sure you would have to have an exhaust shop cut out the old one and weld in the new one though.
It is hot air intake hose and it is used for achieving a smoother operation of the engine even in cold weather season, to feed the engine with hot air which has been warmed at the outer surface area of the exhaust manifold.
Hey this is Nancy here find here a good quality of metallic hose which may solve your problem on the given below link.

The name of it is "Pre-heater hose". Ducting hose used to direct warm air from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner which improves cold engine performance. Pre-heater hose is either a flexible foil paper hose or pre-formed metal. The hose is used to draw air over the exhaust and into the air filter box when the engine is cold. It allows the engine to achieve a smooth idle sooner and prevents the throttle body from icing up. There should be a "thermostat" that closes off the flow of heated air once the engine is warmed up or the ambient temperature is warm enough to begin with. Most auto parts stores stock it but you might need to give them the diameter of it.
If left open all the time it can cause problems buy sending the hot thinner air into the engine.
