Neat! That Canadian weather sure took a beating to your car. I think my car has all original suspension parts. Ball joints, struts and all. Btw how did you clean your carpets. Did you use a carpet cleaner or just scrub the dirt out? The last few years that my relatives owning my car used it for deliveries for their restaurant, so messy carpets.

Ok, I have a few questions:

1. What was all the powder looking stuff on the motor in the early pic?

2. How did you get the motor looking so clean?

3. Have you thought about doing Forever Black on your trim?

4. Do you take your R bumper off for the winter?

5. When you said "you painted it" did you paint the entire car or just the R bumper?

6. What kind of fogs did you go with in the R bumper?

Nice looking black wagon.

The paint is pretty rough on it, it takes alot to get it to look alright, im a detailer, so it drives me crazy all the scratches/dings, but i have no money to paint it right now.
For carpets, i used both, the shampoo machine works great for getting out salt stains (so does hot water and a brush) and dirt, not so great for stains.
For stains, you might have to try multiple products. What i used was a toyota product called bio-solv (its amazing to put it lightly) we use it for everything. You might be able to buy some if you ask at a toyota parts counter and the guy knows what he's talking about. Basically spray it in, and scrub with a brush + repeat. When your down spray it down in hot water and vaccume it out, (like a carpet cleaner). I even carefully sprayed it onto my alcantara seats and it worked good. Takes sometime and surely you can get almost anything out.
Be careful with that stuff (or any degreaser or cleaning product really) bio-solv was tested to not damage a TOYOTA, i use it on my volvo but with no guarantee that i wont harm some of my plastic/material.

Nice looking black wagon.
1.It's just dust and dirt. The guys driveway wasnt paved.
2.^Biosolv again.. Its a degreaser product I use at toyota, sprayed that ( you could use an engine greaser aswell i guess, but I have access to free products at work) let it sit, then carefully pressure washed it. Covered the intake and motor etc with plastic to not get water anywhere it didnt belong. Worked good. Also many hours with cloth in 1 hand and a spray bottle in the other, I have a car club so I go to alot of meets, got to keep it looking reasonable.
3.I skipped that part of the writeup, but the only trim i haven't taken care of yet.. You'll see what ive got when i'm done.
4.Yep, i like to drift alot, and plow through snowbanks too, R bumpers are expensive.
5.Ya i painted just the bumper, i did a writeup on VS about it. Wish i could paint the whole car.
6.i used stock 850 fogs ( the ones that came on the car stock) there are no differences with the R fogs. Just one of them does not line up perfectly when i install the R bumper
Thanks.

thanks, it seems like the work never ends, normally i have to fix things twice due to used or jobber parts, also i'm learning so i screw it up sometimes too.
1/4 mile and lapping doesnt help either

1 step compound, glaze + a couple hours.

All the swirls were gone. Up close the hood looked like the night sky, full of stonechips. But its original paint 15 years of winters...

I even wax the rims sometimes, it makes them shine, and brake dust washes off nicely.

Ya, i remember reading about that. I got screwed with my chip, its a long story I won't get into it, let's just say that that my mods list is missing a tune, white injectors, which are bought and paid for. ( then a 16T)

Matt: Great job with the wagon. I didn't even notice the R seats.

I would be afraid to drive my car like that in the snow. I'm not real comforable with the suspension in these FWD cars. I think the weak link is the front suspension. I remember back in the 80's when Volvo was driving the 760/740 down train tracks to prove how tough they were. I bet they wouldn't do that with these FWD cars for 1/2 block. LOL

Again, great job with the wagon. I forgot it was AWD.

Yep LPT AWD 5-speed. I updated the pics with the V70R seats today. But it was written in the "aesthetic" section
ya, i need to use my car everyday, so some of my buddies really go insane with the drifting, sometimes hit curbs, (the snow hides them nicely) and i cant afford to have much downtime with my car, plus the cost of repairs for being stupid. So i really pay attention and normally only go in open parking lots.. It takes alot of practice being the car is not a clear 50/50 front, rear split, its unpredictable, sometimes i can get into a nice drift, sometimes just understeer. It's just a shame that the handbrakes suck on these cars, can't really drift the FWD's easily.

Update: I forgot to add a picture of this. Got it from a local, came out of a yellow..

ya, i have a pretty rare car.. but although it has R seats, T5 R ****, i have my R suede inserts to pick up, R bumper, it's still not an R. If ever i find one, i might have a hard time resisting.

Too bad that one fell into the wrong hands.

my 1997 855 AWD has a lot of the same mods!

i have the same **** from a 97 black 850R stick wagon, 850R seats from the same car! i thought of swapping out the seats from my 98 V70R but decided to keep it 850R where i could, i have the bumper but still need the spoiler, i have a water-to-air intercooler to put in yet and an AFCO racing RAD, and i'm looking for a 19T and a B5234 to build. right now it just has a 16T. i also have a few other goodies waiting for it when i start driving her next spring! lots of pictures to come when i get everything together.

you might remember my video of 2 855 AWD's on youtube? you corrected a bit of my misinformation lol

i actually wrapped the black AWD around a hydro pole after a figth with a female and a few bad decisions but we wont go there...

now i have my baby 855 AWD (burgundy) , a 98 V70R (black) soon to be 5 speed! parts suppied from "big sexy"(R.I.P.) and a 99 non turbo 5 speed V70 for my beater lol (BLACKED OUT!) maybe flat black in the future

Lots of love From B-K Volvo Waterloo!
you car looks amazing!
