Starting Problems PLEASE HELP!!!
Alright guys I have a 1996 850 GLT that will not start, I have fuel, fire and it's in time but doesn't want to do anything but crank over; any ideas?
Pulling the codes from your 96 would be easy with an OBDII code reader. Some, not all auto parts stores will let you "buy" their store used code reader to take home so you can see if you have any codes and if so what they are and then allow you to return the reader and get a full refund.
Warning, ask them for the loaner ... do not just buy one and think you can return it as you will not be allowed to. You will usually have to put up somewhere between 100 to 225 bucks to walk out of the store with their scanner but you get it all back. Cash is best as your bank will usually take a day or two (or three) to credit your card back.
The connector to plug the scanner into is located on the center console just above and to the left of the shifter. It's covered with a coin holder that pops out.

Sounds like a long shot but it worked for me, had the same issues you are having swapped my ECU and bam started right up.. I wouldn't bother spending too much on one though, I got one on EBAY for $25 shipped, just make sure they match up.. just throwing a suggestion at ya
