Default mysterious red light

I'm a newbie volvo owner and occasionally I get a red led light turning itself on beside the mileage/temp etc screen on the dash. No warning lights on the dash but that little led seems to turn itself on randomly and stays on. Ideas?

I believe that is the light that warns you when the temp outside is cold enough to have ice on the road. When the temp falls really low like 25 degrees F it may go back off since you know that the roads are frozen.

Does it have a little like snowflake around it, if so, then that's what it is.

Once you see that the original poster is in New Zealand it all makes sense. I'm thinking I want to be there in January. I think the 36 degree F thing is to warn about bridges that always seems to ice up faster than the road.

I think that's right. We did an experiment in science where dirty water freezes at a higher temp than clean water because there's more space between the molecules.....

?

ummm, no snowflake and no sub zero temperature. Although its winter, it doesn't drop below freezing often (certainly hasn't yet). It's just a single, small, round red light sitting by itself beside the display (Display being the one for temp, average consumption, average speed etc etc) It's a '95 850 GL wagon by the way.

I was told they don't all have snowflakes, so if it doesn't have the snowflake it could still be that. Is it the same light as shown in the picture?

It's a solitary light beside the display. Similar to the one if the diagram except its not amber. It's red and its the only light there.

It doesn't necessarily need to be amber, mines red. I'm pretty sure that's what it is, because that's the only light beside the display right there. Unless the person who owned your car before you decided to put in an aftermarket light the blinks when it feels like it. If your still not sure, take a picture of it and post it on here, and then that way you can get closure.

Probably is that. Odd that it came on when the temp was higher than 2 degrees celcius.
