Default Need some input

As the title says I need some info. I got an R manifold from my buddy for nothing , and if some of you know what I am about to say, I have a t-5r and that has EGR. I would prefer a route that does not end up with a CEL on.

My question is would swapping the ECU out for another work on this car( such as an R ECU with no EGR, or a 96+ T5 ECU with no EGR)? My buddy says it would not work( he has been working on Volvo's for many years and owns a shop, so I respect his input) because the 95 is mainly OBD1 and having an ECU that is Pretty much OBD2 would mess up the car. Any truth to this?

I keep up with many of the Volvo sites so I know about the resistor route or what Boxpin did since he is in Cali. Looking for something short-term so all opinions welcome.

As long as you don't jump fuel injection systems you'll be fine. The '96 R ECU should work. I have run my car with one in it. If the '96 has SAS, you'll need to do the SAS delete.

Well more like if I can get rid of it for more room. Plus I am dieing to put the r manifold in.

Also because I know I will do other mods like bigger TB and such were you need an N/A intake manifold, so I am slowly getting components together. I mainly asked the question to see if what my mechanic said had any truth to it.

Whether you have it or not it can be turned off in a tune.
