Default New Car?

Okay, So I'm going to look at a turbo wagon (because Volvo wagons are just meant to be) tomorrow. You guys are very bad influences. So what do you think?

It's for a few reasons.

first... I'm 45 going on 16, aka midlife crisis. You young guys stop rolling your eyes, just wait until you get here.

second...The N/A just doesn't have the power I want at 65 -70mph when I have to put it to the floor to pass on the right some butt head that drives in the left lane at 65 and when I try to pass on the right they want to race???

Third.. I want to develop some products for our cars that only performance minded people will appreciate and buy. Like who is going to buy anything for an N/A, I mean except for the basics.

So what do you think....Just say yes, great idea Bob!!

Once you go turbo, you don't go back. If you get a turbo wagon, you'll never want to drive your NA again.

Yes, Great Idea Bob.

I am 44, married and 5 kids. Everyone respects the Volvo and knows its 'Dad's Car'. Its a sleeper and unexpected. I have only lost to a suped up Dodge Neon turbo. My kids waved goodbye to a BMW the other day, its too fun.

Boxpin...This sounds like a whole lot of fun, I hope we can be doing the same soon.

Hopefully I'll be posting pics later today.

Not yet but went out looking today. Test drove (2) 94's and now I know what you guys are talking about, wow big difference, scared me at first, wet roads and I just wanted to stomp on them and so I did.

Car #1 96 body in decent shape, interior needs cleaning, car needs work, car wouldn't start. I wished they had told me this yesterday when I called to ask about it. didn't get to test drive. Might buy it right if they get it running.

Car #2 94 paint and body good, told that it needs rear main seal but price would be discounted if I wanted to do it myself (not enough of a discount for me but they may come around) a small bit of smoke coming out the dipstick tube but car had plenty of power.

Car #3 94 paint and body fair, clear coat gone, They were kind enough to put it on the lift for me where I found another rear main seal leak and front cam seal leaks, ball joint boot torn. ugh. Drove well had plenty of power (they let me drive them alone, so well, I drove them). 16" wheels which I really liked. OBDII compliant.

What do you guys think of the 94 vs the 96 as far as model years?

They all sound like awesome projects. Since they're all wagons (right?), then the only difference between 94 and 96 is EGR vs No EGR (which doesn't effect anything), and different interior switches, rocker switches in 94, the 96 will have the same style switches as your V70s.

Ooooof course they are all wagons!! Volvo wagons are just meant to be

No egr sounds better. In fact, if it weren't for the interface between the ECU and TCU i'd like to put in a universal ECU(of my own design)

94 has a different ABS module, or what looked like the ABS mod. had ATE on the side of it but was mounted on the drivers side of the master cylinder and looked much more robust than the 96, all metal casing(A really good thing from an electronics stand point) ???

Can't wait to get my hands on a good deal.

The 94 DOES have a better ABS module. Also, 94s (even with OBD-II) have the diagnostic box under the hood, so you can do a lot more stuff yourself. Even better that you found one with OBD-II. As for EGR, the 94 has it, and the only thing you need to do with it is clean out the port in the intake manifold where the valve attaches to it. Do this when you change the PCV system. You ARE going to change the PCV right away, right?

So.. to sum up, the 94 has a more robust ABS unit, an EGR valve (that, like Gilber said doesn't affect anything) and the diagnostic box under the hood. If you like the switches on the '96, you can always swap them with ones from a salvage yard. Don't completely cross off the '96, though... if they get it running and offer you a good deal on it... go for it.
