Red face new volvo owner here with a few quick Q's!

hey everybody just acquired a 1996 850 GLT (non turbo) and was wondering a few things

1. what is the best cold air intake for these vehicles
2. what exhaust system/muffler would you suggest that is not too loud (rather quiet) and not too ricey sounding!
3.any other suggested mods or things i should know about this car!

oh and my damn glove box is locked and i cant get it open any help would be great.

thanks guys any help is great im from the Jeep world so iam not too knowledgeable with the new car yet.

First, this:

stage zero "tuning" list and if ur car lacks performance...

Full stage 0 list:

Plugs
cap/rotor
oil/transflush
filter (oil)
hoses (the little vac lines)
samco hose kit
02 sensors
fuel pumps
clean injectors
clean IC/IC plumbing
Air filter
plug wires

Do that before you start modding your car.

1. Intake: IPD or EST. They're short ram intakes, not cold air intakes, if you want a cai, that's more of a dyi.
2. Cheap exhaust, sounds decent. OBX. Tons of info on this site and other sites about it.
3. There's a ton of mods for this car, before diving in, I would really learn about the car first. It's all about how much money you want to spend and what your power goals are.

I couldn't agree any more with Gilber. A stage zero should be the first thing you should do before bumping up performance.

1 - Can't agree more with IPD or EST's SRI. If you cannot afford this, make your own! Keep the stock setup and drop in a K&N Panel filter. I have that and I just cut out the entire bottom half of it. I'm sure I got some minimal gains, maybe not noticeable but I'm sure it helps. Keep the portion where it draws air from in front of the grill though.

2 - For cheap, go OBX. You can find them for basically nothing ($400) and that's cheap! if you don't feel like breaking the bank, just get a muffler of some sort (Vibrant, OBX B3, etc.). They will act more like a resonator. I've noticed our car's basically have the same tone and don't really get ricey .

3 - Do a projector retrofit with HID's. They are amazing. They light up the road SO much more.

FCPgroton.com has headlight lenses, you can get euro lenses which are clear.
