so I realize that this is ridiculous and we all probably have weird creaks and groans in our older volvos, but I have a noise under or near my glove box that is driving me insane. It's almost like crickets, high pitched and not associated w the interior fan. I hear it mostly on the freeway. Anyway if anyone sees this and has an "aha" moment any ideas would be awesome. I took the cover off the knee bolster and poked around but nothing jumped out at me. I also put some insulating tape (like you would use on your home doors) on the lower part of the plastic cover where it rest on it's mounts because I was sure it was the plastic rubbing on the metal mounts...no dice. anyway if this is a known issue hook me up! Thanks!

 

Does it happen while the car is stopped?

 

yeah only when moving. mostly on the freeway. it's something under the passenger side of the dash, or at least that's where the sound comes from.

 

Most likely a crack in the dash and the plastic rubbing together is making the squeaking sound.

Get use to it or PUMP UP THE VOLUME!!!
