Default Noob 95 850 T5-R

Hey everyone just checking in, This is my first Volvo, I've had plenty of BMW's and Audi's I was in the market for a car and stumbled across this one. I did some research and was blown away by the numbers. I went to check it out and was very pleased by the features and speed of the car. Love the suede leather on the seats. Its got a 146k on the ticker but the odometer has stopped working, seemed like a honest guy said it just stopped a few weeks ago. Best I can tell so far is I need a half axel on the drivers side as the steering is a little sloppy. And it would seem the rims are not stock which sucks because I really like the stock rims. Someone put 16" saw blade looking rims, they are black or dark gunmetal but I definately like the stock rims better. Funny thing is they put low profile street performance tires in the front and grip tires in the rear. I guess they didn't realize it was a FWD. I was told the turbo was re built in 07 and the belts were just replaced. But belts squeel, I imagine they need to be tightened. Its black not one of the rare yellow. So hello

Welcome to the 850 club.

I would also consider giving it a full tune up with OEM parts; see my 2nd reply at:

https://volvoforums.com/m_48928/tm.htm

If the serpentine belt is squealing, it is probably a time for retirement. You cannot tighten the belt as it is tensioned by automatic tensioner. Look at the belt for signs of glazing/slipping and if not for the belt, the tensioner may be retiring.

I would like to retire being stuck in Japan[8D].

Refer to Moderator S70driver or Tech for modding questions as I am nothing but a scheduled maintenance reminder kind of guy.

TLC your T5-R.

Thanks for the link. I'll post pictures as soon as the weather gets better in New England. We're getting a lot of snow so there isn't much chance to give her a bath and make her look pretty. It looks like I have the same rims as Tech does on his white turbo on my T-5R is that stock?

Those are stock turbo rims. The rims on the Yellow one were the stock R rims.

The white car is the wifes and just has an R bumper on it.

She actually has different rims now that I painted gray.

Any plans on modding it?

It's got stock 850 turbo rims...Are you 100% positively sure it's a T5-R?

If it has suede/leather combo interior it's a T5R unless sombody changed it. Sure way to tell is 58 in the 6th and 7th positions of the vin.

Welcome aboard.

I have a yellow T5R that is currently wrecked(meeting with insurance guy tomorrow),a white 97 850 R and a 98 burgundy V70 GLT. Need to get my signature fixed, but haven't got around to it for some reason.

Definately a T5-R its got the 58 in the 6th and 7th positions of the vin. I'll post up pics as soon as I can wash it, its bad weather right now in New England and they salt the roads worse than your fries, so its got a nice coat of white on it. I picked it up from someone who wouldn't know the difference between a T5R or a regular 850 or any other car for that matter, he got it because it was black and had nice leather. I imagine that 2 owners back or more had another volvo or lincoln ls or taurus or something with the same bolt pattern and took the stock T5R rims off and put normal turbo rims on.

As soon as spring and tax returns come I'm going to take care of some of the basic things that need fixing, get some clear corners like arzy's pic and get some 17"'s I am doubtful I can find stock locally I'm not sure how many T5R's are in new england that are parting out the rims. I got to fix the bumper the one fog light is missing and the other doesn't come on. I am still researching what I can do for mods. CAI and custom exhaust comes to mind, other than that I'm not sure what else to do.
