Default Noob Here. Heat Question ?

Hey everyone, I just bought a 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo and I have a quick question about it. Everything seems to be fine with the car except for a few things and I know a decent amount about cars in general but this has got me stumped lol...

I bought the car about a week ago when I was driving it the heat would work but it made a really loud noise when put on sounds like the blower was making a noise or a fan was loose. It was no big deal I was going to fix it later on. But I pulled in to kfc and I put the heat on and then all of a sudden it wouldn't go off I put it on the off position and nothing, I shut the car off and still nothing. It just stays on high so I actually had to pull the number 5 fuse out for it to shut off. Now when I want heat I have to put the fuse in and take it out when its snowing out kinda aggravating lol. Before I wire up a switch to it I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before my only guess is the controller is no good like where you turn the heat on and off but when the fuse is pulled and I put it on and then off you can hear a relay kick on and off. If anyone can help me with this it would really be appreciated thanks, Nick.

Could be the blower resistor. Or maybe the controller.

Do the lights in the controller flash when starting the car?

Sounds like the ECC might be going bad. Pull the codes like Tech advised.

Ifthe blowercontinues to run after you turn off the key it is a shorted out power stage (blower resistor).

Here is the OEM pats source we often use:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/category-ex...137/by_year/44

$75 for a resistor. If you can find a junked 850 or used resistor, you could defer the repair until later by using used resistor. If it were my 850, I would put the new one in right away, though.

Good luck,

JPN
