Default overboosting issues

hey peoples I'm new here, i don't have a Volvo but a good friend of mine has one and he isn't very computer literate.

Recently he has been getting some issues with is 850 T5r (1995, 5 speed)

He believe it's hitting boost cut. He's been in my car (which isn't a volvo) but he says it's the same when i used to hit boost cut.

Anyway we tested the wastegate actuator by blowing 10psi of air into the actuator and it moved. So we believe it could be the TCV or whatever that controls that. But how do you test it?

also is it a common issue with 850's overboosting?

any info would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Check all the vacuum lines at the turbo.
Not common unless a vacuum line is bad. If he is hitting fuel cutoff then he is boosting 15.5 PSI.

Tell him to spend the $20 on new vac hoses (which you can get in reels at auto stores).

Replace all vac lines on the car.

Along with all other hoses.

It only aids to longevity, good sir.

There is only 3 vacuum lines that go to the turbo.

Replace them as instructed. This is good advice.

We had the same issue recently. It turned out to be the Turbo's boost control valve. An easy fix for under $50

i will replace the hoses, but if that doesn't help. How do you test/diagnose the turbo-boost control valve?
