PCV Replacement
Hi,
After I got home this evening, I pulled the oil dipstick out with the car running and the thing was puffing smoke like a locomotive. It was the worst I'd ever seen it since I owned the car. I guess it's time to pull the intake and replace the oil separator box and all the tubing.
I've read all the writeups from everywhere on how to do it and it seems straightforward, but a lot of disassembly along with a large risk of messing it up.
It pretty much makes sense to me but what I'm not sure of is am I skilled enough to do this on my own? In terms of the IPD catalog, I'd say I'm about a level 2+ or 3-. I can do most oil change and tune up type maintenance no sweat. On this car, the hardest stuff I've done is the front O2 sensor, all I/C hoses and the blower motor. It's been a while but I've done brakes too. The point I'm trying to make is that I have some experience but I've never taken a significant piece of my engine off like this.
Anybody out there think I'm getting in over my head or should I be able to pull this one off?
Thanks.

RE: PCV Replacement
Thanks tech. I've got to say, I'm a little nervous about pulling the fuel rail for a couple of reasons...
1. Will a lot of fuel leak out when I take the rail off?
2. I do not have the special Volvo tool to pull the injectors out. Do I really need it or can I get by without it?
Thanks!

RE: PCV Replacement
You don't need any special tools. You will lose a little bit of gas about all the fuel rail will hold.
Loosen the 2 screws and pull up some. If you don't have the fuel line disconnect tool just remove the line from the bottom of the Fuel rail. That is easy as well remove the 3 T-25 screws and slide the bar out some and pull the line out. Then slide the bar back in till you are ready to install it back in.
