the digital readout of kilometers of fuel left till empty is not working properly.

when i bought the car a few weeks ago the readout would say 620km till empty straight after re-fuelling, now when you fill the tak it only says 480km till empty.
it has done this for the last 2 full tank refills. and i only use premium 98 octane fuel.

what could be causing this error - and what would i need to do to fix it.

As you already know, the reset button on the rotary info switch needs to be held down at least 5 seconds in order to clear all readings on the trip computer display.

Are you sure that the display is still reporting distance as kilometers? At first glance, it appears that it has switched over to miles.

The celcius/Fahreheit and kilometer/miles readings are changed by holding down both hour and minutes buttons on the display.

 

I might have an answer for you. Say for example I reset my mileage and drive on the highway to the gas station. Well I probably got about 27mpg, so now when I turn on the car after fueling (18gal), it sees that my ave mileage was 27 and calculates based on that figure the distance until empty as 27x18 or 486 (783km). NOw that you have been doing more city driving and go driving you may be around a 17mpg average. You go tank the car (18gal) and it bases the miles til empty on the 17mpg thus showing a much lower number about 306 (493km). That said go and reset the ave mileage at the same time or before tanking and it should be higher number if you coast into the station...
