Default Possible Slipping? '93

I have been having some problem with my car going into gear. Like for instance I will start start the car and drive off.. Even if I floor the pedal it will drive off slow, but once i get going its goes faster. And while I am driving, I will need to speed up and sometimes it won't change gears like it supposed to and I will have to let up on the gas and press it again..

And same thing when i make a stop at the red light and parking, even if I floor it won't drive off like t should. Could it be spark plugs or the air filter? The only thing I can see is a blinking arrow going up. The previous owner told me the transmission will leak and I need to replace the gasket. Could that be the problem? Also how much would a gasket run for this car?

Any help will be most appreciative

the flashing arrow means the transmission is in limp mode, meaning something could be wrong with your transmission. changing gears has nothing with spark plugs nor air filter. you have to get a code reader and get the codes and post it up here. do you recall when the fluid was replaced? how many miles do you have on the car? have you ever taken a look at the fluid level, making sure you have the right fluid level?

Check the fluid level.

SERVICE INTERVAL
Check fluid level every 10,000 miles.
(More often if you know you have a leak or suspect one)

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
1) Ensure vehicle is level. Apply parking brake and gear
selector lever to "P" position. Start and idle engine. Move gear
selector lever through all gears, while pausing 4-5 seconds for
engagement at each position.
2) Return gear selector lever to "P" position. Wait 2 minutes
and check fluid level with engine idling. Level should be between MIN
and MAX marks.

Check the transmission mode switch by the shifter and see if you have it in "Winter" mode. The switch is located a bit further back from the drivers seat heater switch on the drivers side of the shifter in the center console.

You should be able to read transmission codes by using the under hood diagnostic connector.

As for the "Gasket", you need to know which gasket or seal you're talking about as there is more than just one that might me leaking.

Above the winter switch there is a led and it is blinking green. I don't know if it is indicating i am in winter mode or not. And can I still do what you told me without using the E brake, because i believe the E brake does not work. Somebody told me to check the fluid for the transmission before the engine gets to hot so I can accurately check it. Is that true?

On a 93 you should have an under hood diagnostic panel you can use to pull trouble codes. There isn't a code reader you can just plug in like on a newer vehicle. Or .... sure you can take it to the dealer.

To start, the Ignition key must be in position II, engine not running. Open the hood. Locate the two diagnostic sockets just inboard of the washer fill cap. The “A” connector (shown above) has a jumper that is stored in the lid of the “A” diagnostic connector. The jumper is used for both diagnostic connectors.
What Codes You Can Get

Listed below is the information retrievable from the various connections.
  • A1 Transmission
  • B1 Climate Control
  • A2 Fuel System
  • B2 Cruise Control
  • A3 ABS
  • B5 SRS
  • A5 TCU (Transmission Control)
  • B6 Power Seat
  • A6 Ignition System
  • A7 Combined Instrument
How to Use the Jumpers

Normally “Check Engine Light” information will be found in A2. Put the jumper into A2 and push the black button for one second. Count the red LED light as it blinks back information, blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, is an example of the response you would receive. 2-3-2 would be the code retrieved, now push the button again for one second, again count the blinks, keep checking for codes until one of them repeats, this means you have read all the codes.

Alright thank you for that information. Right now it is too dark and I will do that in the morning. Also ABS and SRS is highlighted on my dashboard for some reason. But tomorrow I will read the codes and I will figure out whats the problem.. And I will post back the results..
