Before i change the power steering pump i would flush it. I use Sea Foam Trans Tune which is also used for power steering. Remove some of the fluid and top off with about half a can of fluid and run for abount 30 minutes, every 5 minutes turn the wheel from lock to lock. If the unit has been neglected there is a good chance that it may be clogged with debris and the Trans Tune will clean it up. After 30 minutes suck all the Trans Tune out and refill with regular fluid. Any remaining Trans Tune will evaporate.

My pump has started to wine now that it's colder. I sucked all the fluid out of the reservoir I could and managed to get a bottle of additive in there. I tried the Lucas PS fluid conditioner but I haven't noticed much difference yet. I may give the seafoam a try.

There is a special tool you can get as a loan from Oreilly or Autozone that is used to remove and install the pulley on the power steering pump. The pulley is available separately in most cases.

Usually the pulley itself isn't going to cause you any problems unless you pry against it and bend it or it gets hit with something and gets bent. They don't wear out. Usually if it's noisy it's the belt or the pump.
