Default Puddle of fuel beind drivers rear tire...

I left work to run an errand this morning and discovered the fuel leak. I looked under and noticed the heatshield on the fuel tank gone. The mount or the bushing closest to the rear is slathered with what looks looks Jb weld. I called Volvo of America and the told me the car had not been in for the 139? recall and gave me the number to the closest Volvo dealership. I made an appointment for Monday. Now seeing that someone already half arsed a repair do you guys think it will be covered under the recall? Not the best picture but all I could without getting dirty.

thanks

Mike

its up to the dealers discretion... Some might and replace the entire fuel tank, others might tell you to take a hike.. but make sure the call you first to authorize anything that is going to cost you money

The recall is for life. The fuel tank will be replaced.

Well the one encouraging part of the conversation with Volvo Usa was the representative made sure I had all the correct phone numbers and email addresss for the customer service if I was not satisfied with the dealer. I am still looking to source another tank just in case. It is leaking with only 10 gallons of fuel in there - and to think I almost filled up...lol

Dang, I wish I had seen this before last saturday. I just took what was left of my donar sedan to the scrap yard. Had a good tank, filler hose, and shield that I had taken out before delivery. Then again, are the tanks the same. IDK

As long as the "repair" didn't cause the problem that's covered under the recall you should be good.

The dealer has all right to turn him away because the tank has been tampered with.. The recall is for the heat shield bushings and they only replace the tank if there is damage to said tank.

But because someone tried to repair the tank and the heat shield is missing dont have to replace the tank. They would tell him he needs to purchase a new tank and they will install it with the new bushings and heat sheild that is covered in the recall..

Maybe I misunderstood. If the tank was damaged by something like road debris and someone tried to fix it then yes, you are correct. It will not be covered.

The recall is to inspect the fuel tank. If there is no leakage from the bushing mounts, spacers are installed and the heat shield is modified. If there is leakage from the mounts, the tank is replaced.

According to the previous owner the Shield was removed to fix the leak. Once the repair was done he put the shield back on secured by 2 bolts as the third was covered with the Jb weld. The shield would rattle so he took it off all together to stop the rattle and to apply more JB weld from time to time. So this will be interesting. Thanks again guys.

Ive owned 4 850's and am about to take delivery of a 5th they all have been through the recall, and one was denied due to the tank being altered by the previous owner.

i took the car to a different dealer and they did it no problem..

Anyway... the only to know for sure is to bring it to the dealer in your area.. That dealer will tell you what they will be able to do, What will be covered and what will not..
