Default Small puddle inside car during rainy day

Its been raining all day today and i noticed a small puddle maybe 2 inces diameter on the passenger side front mat. Any idea to where its leaking from? Its not coolant for sure, its rain water.

Thanks!
Ali

Hi Ali,

I would assume the leak is probably from poor windshield sealant, pax-side window weather strip, or the drain holes for the sunroof (if so equipped) may be plugged with dirt or one of the drain hoses may be disconnected.

Try dumping a bucket of water around those areas to see if you can reproduce the leak.

Good luck,

JPN

Hi guys,

Raining like crazy here in the Northeast US - i now have a swimming pool behind the drivers seat. I susptect the sunfoof. I checked the drains a couple months ago and they are clear. It is a 96 wagon, is gaskey deterioratio common? Is ita difficult job to replace?

Thanks,

Mike

Thereshould be4 drain holes for the sunroof, at each corner; the rearsmay notbe accessed without removing the interior trim (headliner). Try pouring water onto the drain rail to see if it drains onto the ground. If not, the holes may be blocked. Also, check the left rear window/door weather strips.

"Gasket" meaning the rubber piece on the roof glass? Unless physically damaged, it should be ok and the roof glass cannot seal out water completely; the reason why there are rain rails under the sides & front of the glass.

If the drain hose (s) is blocked or disconnected somehow, I would have it done at a dealer. If the rears are the problem, you may have to remove much of the interior trim pieces, and the sunroof assembly is very heavy, definitely a 2-men job.

Hey folks,

I found the leak that was drenching the interior of the car. Pulled down the headliner enogh to see the back of the sunroof, and sprayed the car. What I found was a small metal pin coming through the rear of the sunroof housing next to the drain line. It was dripping significantly. I took the easy, and I hope effective way our and completely sealed the area arounf the pin with Hot melt glue. All the drain lines are free and clear, but somehow water is pooling there when the car is paked on a slight hill.

next week - bolting the broken front door mount! gotta love these cars, they keep you busy!
